WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY CELEBRATION

In a significant effort to address periodic poverty and empower teenage girls, the District Education Directorate and the Bosomtwe District Assembly Celebrated World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 with a durbar in Adunku on Wednesday, 28th May, 2025 for both basic and senior high schools in the district. The district provided education and the necessary support for menstrual hygiene to more than 300 girls. The programme was organized at the Adunku School Park.

The celebration was conducted according to a UNICEF report which state that 95,000 girls miss school each year as a result of menstrual issues, which accounts for nearly 20% of all missed school days. The theme for celebration was "Together for a Periodfriendlyworld" by 2030. This theme seeks to promote dignity, bridge disparities, and eradicate the stigma and taboos associated with menstruation, as well as to provide menstruation products, education, and a supportive infrastructure.

The programme was graced with the presence of Honorable Abdullah Hamidu, the District Chief Executive, Adunku Queen Mother, Nana Adomah GyamfuaaKyerekuaa-chairperson, District Education Circuit Supervisor, District Genda Officer, Staffs, Church/Muslim Council, Assembly Members and community members. A brief address was given by the District Chief Executive, the Queen Mother and the Circuit Supervisor-Education Directorate. The District Chief Executive donated six boxes of Softcare sanitary pads to support the celebration at the conclusion of his speech and pledged to be there whenever duty calls. The programme commenced and ended successfully with free sanitary pads to school girls and some mothers in attendance.

The program was sponsored by SUNDA Ghana Limited (producer of Softcare sanitary pads), Bosomtwe District Assembly, Bosomtwe Rural Bank, Choice Mineral Water and Shine Feel Company.
