The Bosomtwe District AIDS Committee of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) was officially inaugurated at the Bosomtwe District Assembly Conference Hall on Thursday, 11th June 2026. The inauguration formed part of the Ghana AIDS Commission Decentralization strategy aimed at strengthening the coordination and implementation of HIV/AIDS intervention in accordance with the Ghana AIDS Commission Act 2016 (Act 938)
The purpose of the inauguration was to officially constitute the District AIDS Committee and empower its members to coordinate HIV/AIDS prevention, education, advocacy, monitoring, and support activities within the district. The Committee is expected to work with stakeholders to reduce new HIV/AIDS infections, combat stigma and discrimination, and promote access to HIV-related services.
The Committee comprises representatives from key sectors, including; The District Chief Executive (Chairman), District Director of Health Services (Member), District Director of Education (Member), Representative of Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV), Representative of Civil Society Organization on HIV/AIDS, Representative of Christian Religious Bodies, Representative of Muslims Religious Bodies, Representative of the Traditional Council and District HIV/AIDS Focal Person.
The committee members were subsequently sworn into office and took the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy administered by the TSU/GAC after all proceedings.
The inauguration of the Bosomtwe District AIDS Committee marks an important step towards strengthening the district’s response to HIV/AIDS. Members pledged their commitment to working together to reduce the spread of HIV, improve access to services, and contribute to the national effort of ending AIDs as a public health threat.
